Someone once said that worrying is like rocking in a rocking chair. It gives you something to do but it doesn't get you anywhere.
I know that lots of us have anxiety, worry, and stress.
My 11 year old daughter struggles with this and she wrote this:
"STRESS"
"Oh,,, that ugly word. STRESS
It is probably the worst feeling I've ever experienced in my entire life.
It feels like I'm trapped in a box that's filled with water.
That's locked and at the bottom of the ocean.
Even if I get out of the box I feel like I'd never get to the surface.
And inside the box, the water is drowning me.
Ripping away my life...
Stress is a terrible thing. But what I can do about it is pray!
To just talk to God.
To find Hope in the sorrow. Find the light in the dark.
God is on my side and He is the one who will WIN this BATTLE!
He brings Peace And Joy And Love to those who TRUST Him.
Stress is an awful thing but there is a way out of it.
And there is HOPE!"
I think she got it right in the end where she used the word TRUST.
I think we all realize how out of our control a lot of situations are.
And that makes us worry. We don't know the outcomes.
We are powerless a lot of the time. We can try to always be in control
but that's impossible and piles on even more pressure and stress.
The bible says in Matthew 6
"“25“This is why I tell you to never be worried about your life, for all that you need will be provided, such as food, water, clothing—everything your body needs. Isn’t there more to your life than a meal? Isn’t your body more than clothing?
26“Look at all the birds—do you think they worry about their existence? They don’t plant or reap or store up food, yet your heavenly Father provides them each with food. Aren’t you much more valuable to your Father than they?
27So, which one of you by worrying could add anything to your life?”
When we completely TRUST God as a good father who has our best interest at heart, it takes the worry out of life.
It brings to mind a picture of a child asleep in the back seat of the family car on the way somewhere. They aren't awake worrying about Dad or Mom keeping the car on the road or missing their turn. They just trust that when they wake up, they will have arrived safely. That trust gives them peace and allows them to rest. I think that's what Jesus meant when He said that we should have FAITH LIKE A CHILD.
