Suffering for Doing Good
8 Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble.
9 Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.
1 Peter 3:8-9 New International Version (NIV)
When someone does evil to us the natural response is to retaliate.
But that is a vicious cycle that never ends.
The evil that was done is multiplied when you pay it back.
Because we tend to come back a little harder.
“In order to break the cycle one person has to voluntarily accept
the evil done to them without retaliation.“
What?!
Is this possible in natural human strength?
No. It is not a natural response.
But it can be SUPERnatural.
God can give us the strength to accomplish this.
And then the cycle of evil is broken.
By doing this we are reflecting to the world what God has shown to us.
His grace.
His forgiveness.
His mercy.
